Following the directive of the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, through Brig. Gen. Eric Angaye (rtd), to ban street trading in the state capital, the Chairman of Bayelsa State Volunteers, High Chief Lucky Asanakpo and his counterpart, Hon Doubiye Alagba (Chairman Bayelsa State Vigilante services) in conjunction with other security agencies has enforced the directive from this day.
The Chairman noted that the body will no longer condone any form of street trading in Metropolitan Yenagoa.
According to him, the hazards of street trading are enormous including the loss of life of such traders especially among women and children.
The wisdom of the governor is to safe guard the lives of our women and children from immense danger due to acts by hoodlums.
Some criminal hideouts were also raided during the operation, various suspects were arrested and handed over the Magistrate court at Ovom, Yenagoa.
He stated that the agency will henceforth intensify its efforts at raiding criminal hideouts in the state.
He noted that the government will no longer tolerate the excesses of these cult groups.
He added that any body arrested during the raids will be promptly handed over to the police for immediate prosecutions.
